...defining the 21st century's technological research university

The Personal Touch

The Missouri S&T community is committed to providing an academic environment that fosters creativity and curiosity. The university understands the importance of small classes, personal attention and approachable faculty. With over 400 faculty members, our student to faculty ratio is 14 to1.

With rare exceptions, most classes are taught by a full professor. On the first day of class, each professor outlines their expectations and course syllabus, complete with scheduled office hours when they will be regularly available to discuss questions about class. A quick email is usually all it takes to schedule an individual appointment or ask questions about the day’s lecture.

A typical class size is 27 students. Nearly all lecture courses break down into smaller lab sections once or twice a week to do an experiment related to recent material or review critical theories and application. An average lab section includes 17 students.

With only 4,700 undergrad students, Missouri S&T is a comfortable, personable campus. The only thing limiting a student’s connection to a faculty mentor is his or her willingness to approach them and ask for help. The faculty at S&T boasts some of the brightest minds and researchers in the world. Luckily for Missouri S&T students, they are also some of the most committed educators and truly care about their students. Need proof? Schedule a campus visit and we'll always make sure you have an opportunity to visit with the academic departments you are considering.

Affordability

If you're concerned about how you're going to pay for college...relax! Did you know that more than 85% of all admitted students receive financial assistance in the form of scholarships, grants, loans and work-study? Our average financial assistance package, which usually includes federal and Missouri assistance and S&T scholarships, was more than $10,000 for the 2006-2007 academic year. The largest source of financial support is the university itself, distributing more than $60.1 million in assistance to students last year.

If you have questions about affording a Missouri S&T education, we welcome you to visit with a Financial Assistance Representative during your campus visit or give them a call anytime. We will do everything we can to help you afford to attend Missouri S&T. The real question is, can you afford not to?
