...defining the 21st century's technological research university

Jumpstart Your Career

Astronauts, CEO's, writers, teachers, inventors and innovators: for thousands of graduates, Missouri S&T has been the springboard to a rewarding career. Missouri S&T prides itself on helping students think analytically, incorporate new ideas and push the boundaries of knowledge. As our global workforce becomes evermore technology-driven, MS&T graduates are lifelong learners: exceptionally prepared for careers in many fields.

Missouri S&T students have a reputation for being successful right after graduation. Over 96% have accepted a position or enrolled in graduate school within three months of graduation. Not only do Missouri S&T grads average starting salaries over $53,000 but they are hired by America's finest employers.

Last year, 668 companies came to campus to recruit Missouri S&T students, conducting over 5,400 on-campus interviews. The campus hosts the largest technological career fairs in the Midwest. The Career Opportunities Center offers extensive career counseling from eight trained advisors, practice interviews, workshops, etiquette dinners and more. The first stop for students seeking internship, co-op and full-time employment, Missouri S&T's COC was named one of America's top 20 campus career centers by the Princeton Review in 2007.

Internships & Co-ops

Each year, over 500 students go to work through our co-op program at more than 150 employers nationwide. Companies hire Missouri S&T students for a semester or over a summer. Co-ops and internships are a popular way for students in many academic programs to acquire real job experience and earn extra income. The average co-op position pays over $2,600 per month. Many students find they enjoy their co-op experience so much that they rejoin the company after graduation. Nearly two-thirds of our students will complete a co-op, internship or personal research project before they graduate.

Graduate & Professional School

One-quarter of Missouri S&T undergrads choose to attend graduate school immediately upon graduation, and many more go on to earn a graduate degree at some point in their career. Many departments recruit undergrads to stay at Missouri S&T and pursue their graduate studies. After Missouri S&T, frequent graduate school destinations are MIT, Caltech, Michigan, Illinois, Georgia Tech, Stanford, Purdue and Washington University.

Missouri S&T graduates have been very successful candidates to medical, veterinary and dental schools. Degree programs in the sciences and engineering also provide unique perspectives for law school, patent litigation, regulations and liability and are in high demand in today's legal arena. Missouri S&T graduates who apply to professional schools after completing a pre-professional program have an acceptance rate often nearing 100%.

Not all Missouri S&T graduates enter the corporate workforce. Many choose to return to the classroom as educators. As school districts nationwide search for qualified teachers in the sciences, mathematics and other fields, MS&T’s Teacher Education Program prepares graduates to educate the next generation of innovators. It's no surprise Forbes.com and The Princeton Review named Missouri S&T a top 25 "entrepreneurial university," nearly a quarter of our graduates go on to start their own company.
